What happens
The first hour is yin yoga: long, supported, floor-based holds of three to five minutes each, no flowing sequences and nothing to keep up with. The stillness lets the deep connective tissue around the hips, spine and shoulders slowly release, which is why the class suits the end of a working day. You are shown an easier option for every shape and can stay with a blanket over you the whole time.
The last thirty minutes are a sound bath. You lie down, close your eyes, and Kia plays three crystal quartz bowls around the room. There is nothing to do but listen; most people drift somewhere between waking and sleep and come round feeling quieter than when they arrived.
You need no experience, no flexibility and no fitness. Arrive five to ten minutes early to park, settle and set up your mat. Wear something comfortable and bring water if you like. Tell Kia before class about any injuries or if you are pregnant.
Who teaches it
Dr Kia Prescott, PhD, leads every class in person, as she does the seasonal retreats in North Wales and the RITUAL video library.
